“Who buys something for $1,500 that becomes worth $100 million and doesn’t sell it? John Powers. That’s who.”— Michael Findlay

01 / The Story

Art Is an Awareness of Life

John and Kimiko Powers built a life around art and the people who made it. Through personal archives and never-before-seen artist conversations, The Powers: A Life in Art explores their friendships with Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and others, revealing a world shaped by curiosity, beauty, and human connection.

“Not only did they collect, but then the artists collected them.”

Put the Film to Work for Your Mission.

John and Kimiko Powers spent their lives putting art in front of people who hadn’t yet learned to see it. Your organization can do the same, and fund its own work in the process.

Host a Benefit Screening

Turn the film into an evening for your members, patrons, and donors: in your theater, a collector’s home, or online. We provide the film, a conversation with director Tyler Oliver, and the materials to run the event. The proceeds support your mission.

Teach With It

For museums, universities, and schools: screening and teaching rights, with materials drawn from the Powers archive that aren’t in the film. Built for educators, curators, and first-time viewers.

Talks & Programs

A full screening, a talk, or a clip and conversation with the filmmaker, shaped for museum members, collectors’ groups, conferences, and design and architecture audiences.

For museums, patron groups, university art programs, arts nonprofits, and collector circles.

Tell us about your organization, and we’ll shape the right event together.

“Art is an awareness of life. Artists are aware of the world around them, and they share with us a vision that we pass by.”— John Powers

03 / The Filmmaker

A Film by
Tyler Oliver

Tyler Oliver first walked through John and Kimiko Powers’ Colorado home as a child, past the Warhols and the Lichtensteins, with John asking him one question: What do you see? Decades later, that question became this film. A director with twenty years of experience, Oliver is known for gaining rare access to closed worlds and exploring the human condition through art, perception, and transformation.

“Their world opened a door in me, and I want to hold it open for others.”— Tyler Oliver
